Portrayed is some of the Vertical "windmills" that is found a few kilometers outside of Pincher Creek. They are situated near the highway and with hills in teh background. Descrition of artistic process: First came the camera, a very basic element that provides the "window" to the 3D World i am creating. I started with a plane on the YZ plane. The texture was the created by using methods described in the tutorial (bumps and scale) with basic RGB color schemes. next i needed a basic light source, but it had to be quite high up to represent the sun. I had a lighted textured plane thus far. Now came the hard part. Using some Cones and a Cylinder, i came up with the base and center of the windmill. At this moment i worried about texture, but removed it later because of efficiency. For the blades i used two spheres at the same coordinates and a slight difference in radius. With a difference map between the spheres, it created one big hollow sphere. Nice i created a ball on a stick. With the Addition of Cubes to "cut away the area i don't need" I managed to create a singleblade on the stick. I scaled to bladeto size and translated it a little to get the correct look, and then copied the blade and rotated it about the y axis, to give me the three blades on the base. At this stage it gave something that looked a little like a lantern. the only thing let was the support structure. The Most difficult i think to create. It consisted of some translations and a rotation about the z axis. I had to use a lot of "render and see if that placed the box where i want it" tactics. The computations for this is quite extensive. I copied the complete "windmill" to create the Row of windmills nea Pincher Creek. The result thus far is posted as CP3710PROJECT.GIF. As a final touch i added the Hills in the Backgroud, by using a Blob object, translate and scaled to my needs. Enjoy the Artwork. Abel
