My project is the Green Watertower by the SandMan Inn on the corner of Mayor Magrath Drive and 3rd Ave South. The water tower has been a noted landmark in the city for many years. Its usefulness as a water tower has met its "waterloo" and is destined to be torn down in the near future. Knowing that, I thought it particularly appropriate to do as my project. The picture took shape through creating objects and merging them together so that it was possible to move the new combined object easily by translating/rotating etc. Initially once the image was together, I tried several different approaches each making the picture look totally different. For instance when surrounded by the solar system, the water tower took on a science fiction look. In the end however, I perfered the image portrayed in front of the setting sun and sitting in a body of water. Although it still has a somewhat "other-worldly" look it still has some elements that I can identify with. I found creating a "warm sunset" and realistic water was quite a challenge. I used one of the built in objects called a "skysphere" for the sky. This gave the clouds a circular shape as opposed to just a flat plane with clouds placed on it. The water came to shape by taking a plane and using a "normal" with the wrinkles option, this gave the water a calm and peaceful look. Finally one of the coolest tricks I think was the sun. I achieved this vibrant light by putting a clear glass plane at the back of the scene and the light source did the rest. It is merely a reflection of the light source!
