For my assignment I choose to model of a Boeing B-17 bomber also know as the Flying Fortress. This was a very popular bomber during the second world war used by the United States Army.

To begin I found a to scale schematic drawing of the aircraft that I used to to create a correct model of the air craft.

After this I attempted to model the shape of the body. I first attempted to do this by creating an outline of the entire aircraft, however after extensive research and countless tutorials I discovered a more effective way of modeling airplanes. To create a the body of the airplane I created a cylinder and then began shaping that to the body of the airplane.

After I created a outline of the plane I proceeded to create a the rudder and vertical stabilizer of the air plane. To due this I selected the desired faces and shifted them up to create the desired shape.

I used the same method as before to also create the wings as well as well as the elevators of the plane.

I them also discovered that I could mirror all changes made to one side of the aircraft to the other side, which saved me a lot of time.

I then began to create the gunner nests of the airplane.

There are several different types of gunner nests on this airplane so I experimented with different methods of creating to create the gunners nests.

Next I attempted to create the engines of the B-17. To do this I used 5 different shapes to create a single engine.  I encountered some problems occurred when attempting to merger the engines into the wings as they clipped outside out of wings. To fix this I stunk one side of the cone making the engine so that it would not clip out side the wing.

I then started to texture my airplane going though countless changes up-to and during the final rendering process. My first attempt was to create a realistic spotted pattern on the aircraft.

To create my final piece of the airplane I combined a cone sphere as well as a cone to create the final look of the back gunners hatch.

The true difficulties began when I attempted to create good looking textured after the rendering process.

After the a lot of messing around with the textures and the lighting I began getting a realistic looking B-17 which I could say I am proud of.

Here are the final renders.
